Roof Top Stories with Ross Metals “King Midas’ wish” by Ross Metals

December 3, 2009

There was once this king who was very kind. His peopleloved him very much. He was known for the beautiful roses  that grew in his extravagant garden. He had practically every flower in existence except one, the Fiore Bouganville. A very beautiful, cunning and unsavory woman loved those flowers as well. He showered her with them and then one day she was simply gone. Missing with her was a satchel full of their family’s fine silver, gold, platinum and jewelry. That very morning he had those flowers forever removed and buried along the river. The very next week a tree had sprung from there and was the exact color of those bright pink pedals that aided in his heartbreak. Rather than destroy it, he simply never went there again.

On Sunday mornings, it was the king’s ritual to spend time in his garden and enjoy the morning in silence. One particular morning he came upon a satyr sleeping off a merry night of wine drinking near his bed of roses. In most kingdoms, this would be an offense worthy of death or at the minimum, a long stay in a rat infested dungeon. But the king instead brought the old satyr into his home and gave him food and clothes, for the ones he had were very tattered.

The satyr, it turns out, was Silenus, an old school master and foster father to Dionysus, god of wine and inspirer of ritual madness and ecstasy. Dionysus found out about the king’s hospitality and went to retrieve his foster father and immediately reward the king with one wish.

“Anything you like,” Dionysus assured.

The king replied without thinking, “ I want everything I touch to turn to gold!”

 “As you wish King Midas.”

The wish was granted and King Midas became rich beyond his dreams. His garments transformed to gold right at that very moment. He touched his throne and it turned to gold then his dining table followed by his stairway banister and Persian rugs, all gold, gold, gold! He ran outside towards the bright pink tree and turned it to gold. He no longer would have to be reminded of that affair so long ago!

King Midas ran throughout his kingdom touching chariots, mule carts, buckets and everything else in his path. His people were elated and began to follow him around with teapots, cutlery, gardening tools and baskets for the king to turn to gold. One man paraded around with his gold cloak, a woman postured about in her gold bonnet, a young boy charged about with his gold toy sword.

Twilight soon arrived and the king became very hungry. He returned to his castle where upon his servants had a feast waiting for him. He went to grab a drumstick and it turned to hard gold! Aghast he tried an apple and also it became gold metal. He thought for a moment and grabbed a spoon and went to taste his favorite leek and potato soup and when it touched his lips, it also turned to a sheet of gold. King Midas became very alarmed and realized what he’d done. His daughter heard his despair and went to his aid. Without thinking, he went for a hug and turned her into a gold statue. His servants saw him and hid away from him. Days went by and the king was weak and starved. With a hoarse whisper he begged to Dionysus to take back his wish. Dionysus heard and granted the king his wish. Midas was instructed to wash his hands in the river Pactolus which he did. The power of his wish left his hands and went rushing into the powerful waters. The river sands became gold and the wealth that flowed from this river forever left this a wealthy kingdom.

The kingdom returned to normal except for the tree that stood by the river. That remained forever gold. In the fall, gold leaves would fall to the cool earth and villagers would take their share and sell it to a prime refiner such as Ross Metals today. In addition to supplying gold, silver and platinum findings, mountings and mill products, Ross Metals extends its services as a prime refiner of all precious metals. Roof Top Stories with Ross Metals“Arthur Stenburg’s gift” by Ross Metals

November 24, 2009

An old woman by the name of Mary Stenberg had lost her husband Arthur to a heart attack three years ago. Her children were on the west coast and the thought of burdening them was too much for her to bear.

Her rent-controlled apartment was being sold and she was being forced to move in ninety days. There was no mercy for this 72-year-old woman. She just couldn’t catch a break.

She woke up one Tuesday morning to the sound of an emergency siren followed by chaos right outside her door. She opened to find her friend and neighbor, Jean, being worked on by an emergency medical service crew. Jean had suffered from an apparent cardiac arrest. She was lucky to be able to alert 911 before she collapsed.

Mary stood there silently watching the tragedy unfold in front of her. Jean was rushed away on a stretcher. Mary closed the door and felt a rush of adrenaline surge through her. Was that to be her fate, too? With a small amount in her bank account and all her stocks now gone to the collapse, she felt as though living became too expensive. She picked up an old clock and threw it. Thirty-seven years in this place and all for what? To be discarded like so much unwanted trash!

The crash of the clock hit the wall and it felt good. She picked up a teacup and threw that, too. Next she grabbed a long ago expired potted plant and threw that. It hit a heavy framed photo of her & Arthur on their wedding day and the frame fell and popped open wherein a key fell out followed by a slip of paper. It was a key to a safety deposit box and the paper gave the address.

Wondering what on earth Arthur had left behind without telling her, she got out of her mood and got herself ready to go out to the bank whose address was listed. The box was so heavy that she needed assistance from the security personnel. Upon opening it, she found a partial 24k gold brick, 22k, 24k gold coins and a heap of 14k gold and 18k gold jewelry as well as sterling silver jewelry. She couldn’t believe it. Where did Arthur get this?! Inside there was a note saying, “I knew your hot head would break the frame one day. Never mind where I got it! Please pick your favorite pieces of jewelry to keep. Take the rest to the firm of Ross Metals Corp at 54 W. 47th St. Talk to their reliable staff about cashing in on this small fortune. Ask to speak to Angela or Angel J. Ross. They are extremely informative and very honest.

In addition to purchasing precious metals such as scrap gold, pure gold as in 24k gold bars and 22k gold coins. Silver scrap as well as platinum scrap is also purchased at very competitive prices. Ross Metals has full refining, smelting and assaying facilities.

Ross Metals also supplies gold, silver and platinum products to the jewelry industry. They sell 10k, 14k, 18k findings, mountings, wire and plate. They also have available gold-filled and sterling silver findings. To compliment the above they also carry a fine line of gold, silver and platinum solders.

You were always my girl and I said I’d take care of you forever! See ya on the other side kid. Love, Arthur.” She began to cry and whispered, “I would trade all of this just to have you back.” She got up and knew what to do. She went to Ross Metals and got the best deal ever. After, she got the best of care for Jean and bought a cottage for both of them and another friend in a farm community in upstate New York.

Ross Metals recognizes its tough times and believes in the power of hope and the goodness of people. We’re all in this together. We can try to make dreams come true and so can you!

Roof Top Stories with Ross Metals “The Story Inside The Valley of the Kings!” by Ross Metals

October 8, 2009

It’s the year 1325BC, ancient Egypt and the King has fallen from his horse, breaking his leg in several places. Although only 18 years old, the strength of his youth isn’t enough for him to succumb to death from blood poisoning due to the open wound. His reign of only 9 years has ended but his legend will one day be that worthy of a true king.

Hastily, a tomb is placed together for the unexpected demise of this young man. He is put to rest within 3 coffins, 2 made of gilded wood and the third, where his mummified remains actually remains, is made of 110.4 kg of pure gold which, in today’s market value comes out to 3.7 million dollars! His body is adorned with a heavy; solid gold mask inlaid with obsidian, turquoise, quartz, lapsis and other precious stones. Next to the mummy are 2 small bodies of little girls who had not quite been born but were, nevertheless, still honored. The king is sealed within his sarcophagus and is placed amongst wooden shrines in the burial chamber of the tomb. There are 3 other rooms inside this tomb: the antechamber, the place where left over material from the funeral is placed such as embalming fluid, the annex is where oils, ointments, scents, food and wine are held and the treasury room is the location of four chariots (1 for war and 2 for parades), his silver trumpet, his throne chair, statues, model boats and over 500 other relics and treasure created largely out of gold and silver. The only room decorated in wall paintings and a spray of garland is that where the king actually lies. The tomb is sealed and inscribed on the outside is the curse stating: Death comes on swift wings to him that disturbs the peace of the king. There lies King Tut.

November 4, 1922, British Egyptologist, Howard Carter has discovered the tomb of King Tutankhamun located under the remains of work men’s huts built during the Ramesside Period. It was so well hidden that it didn’t receive the same fate of many other tombs from that period of complete and total theft by robbers. The painstakingly delicate excavation of 3500 artifacts belonging to King Tut took nearly ten years. His tomb is referred to as KV62; kv meaning Valley of the Kings and the 62nd tomb found in that valley. The search was meticulous and the discovery was thrilling.

The curse, however, was believed to be true. 20 individuals involved in the uncovering of the tomb mysteriously died including the principal backer of the dig. Could it have been true or did the power of suggestion ultimately end these lives? It’s a theory shrouded in mystery and one that may never be known.

It must have been quite the honor to be able to discover that tomb and hold that golden mask with one’s own hands and look upon it with personal eyes and know that the last hands to touch it were from over 3,000 years ago. Hands that finely crafted this piece of art with finesse and passion. We have those type of artists today. I know Ross Metals is a place where, had they existed 3,000 years ago, their craftsmen could have been apart of the work involved with kings. Ross Metals treats their customers like royalty today. Short Stories While Sitting Around the Campfire with Ross Metals “The Notorious Black Beard and His Gold and Silver Bounty” by Ross Metals

October 8, 2009

It’s the 1700s and exploration and trading across the sea is abundant. New lands are conquered, new civilizations are discovered and piracy is at its peak.

One could be on their way to India for spices or the Americas for tobacco when off into the horizon, a pirate draws close. The members of the trade ship feel the fear creeping up their spine, blood is drained from haggard faces and prayers are made. Some try hiding and others prepare to fight for the death. Regardless of the outcome, they hope the attack is quick. They hope the pirates are in the mood to spare lives and especially they hope that they’re not about to come face to face with the treacherous Black Beard.

Black Beard was a cautionary tale told to many a sailor on his maiden voyage. His name appeared in many a nightmare and his thickly bearded face and trademark big-feathered tricorn hat was the last thing that many an unlucky sailor would see before leaving life to the afterworld. He was also a pirate who had buried gold and silver treasure in many places throughout the Caribbean and Western Atlantic.

Today Black Beard is long gone but his spirit survives in gold and silver treasure waiting to be found and make someone a very lucky person indeed. Behold the story of Black Beard!

Black Beard was a notorious English pirate who began his life with the name Edward Teach. He ruled the seas in a time known as the Golden Age of Piracy. He ruled over his men and victims with fear and in battle would often light matches in his beard to further scare his enemies. This is not the kind of guy I would want to sit next to in a movie theater or be in the same short radius for that matter.

Sailors were so afraid of him that they would often surrender without a fight. Black Beard’s flagship for many years was called Queen Anne’s Revenge and if you saw this ship coming, it meant your neck. This pirate was down right creepy and was said to always be in reach of many swords, knives and pistols.

Black Beard buried many gold and silver treasures and claimed, “only he and the devil knew where his gold and silver was buried and the longest liver shall take it!”

Well neither he nor the devil ended up getting any treasure. A man by the name of Lt. Robert Maynard was hired to kill the psychotic pirate. In a thrilling chase across the Atlantic Ocean near Virginia, Black Beard was caught and indeed killed. With his head cut and suspended from the bow of Maynard’s sloop, the seas were free of one man’s tyranny.

And the treasures? All the gold and silver? Well, apparently not even the devil knows where it is because it still remains a secret. Does J. Angel Ross know the location of the treasure? If he does, he’s not telling. He’s too busy running the finest gold and silver supplier in the Diamond District, Ross Metals, free of treachery and full of good deals. In addition to supplying gold, silver and platinum findings, mountings and mill products, Ross Metals extends its services as a prime refiner of all precious metals. We buy as well as assay gold, silver and platinum. See for yourself on their Ross Metals web site. I’ve never been afraid of Ross Metals, as you might have been of Black Beard nor shall you! Thank you for your time.

Short Stories While Sitting Around the Campfire with Ross Metals “The Story of Captain Kidd” by Ross Metals

October 8, 2009

Captain Kidd was said to be one of the most notorious pirates in history, according to the English Parliament. Others claimed he was a vilified and wrongly accused privateer with a mutinous, thieving crew and their actions were pinned solely on him. Either way, all sides believe that Captain Kidd had buried treasure of gold, silver, jewelry and coins in Gardiner’s Island, which is now known as Long Island in New York. Whether it’s true or not, it’s this treasure that has helped Captain Kidd to be the legend he has become.

It’s 1689 and a 44-year-old Scottish sailor named William Kidd has set sail to capture pirates and later collect the reward for these surly criminals of the seven seas. He had a reputation as an honest, trusting man but it was his trust for his crew that ultimately led to his execution.

The troubles began on the first journey when, hot on the trail of some pirates, Kidd discovered the true intentions of his crew. They were in fact planning on capturing the pirates only for the intention of committing their own piracy. Captain Kidd objected to this turn of events but then realized quickly that if he didn’t agree to the plan, he himself would be a dead man.

The crime spree had a rocky start as Kidd would often sabotage opportunities of piracy. Eventually and quite reluctantly, Kidd came on board to the idea of riches beyond belief and the spoils were aplenty. By this time, the English Parliament were well aware of Captain Kidd’s actions and a bounty was put on his head for his capture. At this point, Kidd had lost 50 members of his crew to cholera. The bad times had begun and Kidd was now only interested in clearing his name. He took his share of the gold and silver treasure and buried it in Gardiner’s Island, now Long Island, New York as a bargaining chip for his confrontation with the British.

Shortly after, he was caught in Boston, Mass. Then extradited to England where he was executed. His body was tarred and hung in a huge cage by the Thames River where it stayed for many years as a reminder to what happens to pirates. This must have been quite a gruesome sight for the people of London.

As for the treasure, it lays there untouched and waiting. And not too far from Long Island, New York is the Diamond District of Manhattan, the home town of Ross Metals, the finest business in town with the best deals for their customers especially treasure hunters with a tale to tell. Today is the Best Time to be Investing in Gold by Ross Metals

August 20, 2009

So you think of gold as just a wartime investment. Think again. Because it’s negatively correlated — meaning it rises when stocks, bonds, real estate and Treasury bills fall — gold is a solid investment any time government debt translates to inflation. And it’s the perfect antidote to current Wall Street chaos and difficult financial times.

Americans think of gold during rough patches because it’s the only true money source recognized through the centuries and around the world. It holds its value: studies show one ounce of gold has bought about 400 loaves of bread for the last 3,000 years. Unlike other money sources, it’s liquid, portable and, along with silver, the only asset in the world that isn’t someone else’s liability.

And silver has less monetary trading clout. Its appeal today lies in the huge industrial demands. Because it’s worth so much less per ounce than gold, it takes up more space to own a comparable amount.

Platinum falls in the “very speculative” category, as some financial advisers would say, and it does not convert to currency in doomsday scenarios.

Gold investors face two paths at the outset: Do you want to own actual gold or stocks? Stocks appeal to the aggressive risk-takers. Or, to blunt the edge, people with portfolios under $20,000 should gear towards gold stock mutual funds. However, the final decision rests on the same factors as any investment: know your allocations, diversification always rules, and determine how the stock holdings in a portfolio would pan out during a recession.

More “conservative” investors would say no to stocks and heads straight for the real thing. The market has shown often that gold stocks go down over the life of a bear market like the one we’re in now, just like most other common stocks.

A “conservative” investor would also shy away from owning gold certificates or gold storage accounts, which tempt investors with cheaper prices than if they chose to have the metal slapped into their hands. These pieces of paper promise to deliver the physical gold should you call in your claim. In a catastrophe, those guarantees may not be worth the paper it’s written on.

When people discuss buying gold, it usually means they’ve become worried about the social situation on the outside world, and they want some protection. Gold can be bought in forms of pure gold jewelry, coins, and bars. Bullion coins come in one-twentieth, one-tenth, one-quarter, one-half and 1-ounce weights. Most people are familiar with the American Eagle, Australian Kangaroo Nugget, Austrian Philharmonic, Canadian Maple Leaf and South Africa Krugerrand. Bars sell in weights between 1 troy ounce and 400 troy ounces. Experts say this more cumbersome form pays off. In bull markets, the premiums rise on popular purchases, so coins cost a bit more than bars of the same weight. Just insist that your gold bar comes from an honorable fabricator such as Ross Metals or their recommended brands.

Ross Metals has been purchasing and recycling gold from small mines for many years. We provide a quick and efficient turn-around for our customers. Our in-house smelting equipment can provide you with a place to “represent” your gold while it is melted. Combined with our laboratory we can pay out on most lots within 48 hours.

For additional information you can look us up on our website. Ross Metals is the latest discovery in the precious metals business!

HOW TO SOLDER GOLD & SILVER BY ROSS METALS

August 20, 2009

SELECTION: Select the proper color and temper needed for the job. As a rule, the harder (or the highest temperature) the solder the least seam will appear. When soldering in multiple joints, solder the heaviest gauges first with the harder solder. Continue the procedure with medium and then soft, and if necessary with extra soft. Always select a solder whose liquidus is at least 100ºF below the materials melting temperature. If the solders liquidus and materials melt temperatures are too close, you will damage and melt the pieces being soldered. Avoid this by using our easy to use temperature charts in this section for both the solder and the precious metal.

FITTING & CLEANING: Make sure that you join your pieces with the closest fit possible. The closer the fit the better the finish. File off any burrs or inconsistencies. After fitting, clean all areas near the joint. Grease, oil marks (body oils as well) and polishing compound can prevent proper solder flow. A good idea would be to use an ultrasonic cleaner, followed by a cleaning with denatured alcohol or pickling compound. The surface will now be clean, and allow the solder to flow.

FLUXING: Apply Ross Metals Bluflux or Freflux evenly to the clean joint surfaces and to the solder, either with a brush or by dripping parts into the flux. Heating the flux will dissolve the base metal oxides, which will allow for better flow. You should also fire-coat the entire piece or parts with the flux, (contains boric acid) with a light flame to protect the metal from oxidation during soldering.

SOLDERING: Using a soft flame, heat the area to be soldered and the surrounding metal. Increase the flame and carefully heat the joint and then the solder. Let the heat of the joint draw the solder. Solder will flow towards the heat. Continuing heating, concentrating mostly on the joint with occasional heat on the solder until flow occurs. Solder flow can be controlled where you don’t want it by using a graphite pencil to mark those areas.

AFTER SOLDERING: Quench hot ring in a sodium bisulfate solution (pickle) to remove any surface oxidation that may have been caused during heating. The pickle solution should be heated to approximately 180 ºF. White gold should not be quenched immediately. Allow it to cool down for 30-60 seconds before quenching, or brittleness will occur. This also applies to items that have stones set. Check for their resilience before soldering and quenching. Finally, remove all remaining residue with warm water. If fire scales is evident after using the pickle solution, then try a sulfuric (10%) or a phosphoric (15%) acid solution. This might work effectively in many cases.

CAUTION: Cold-working or stretching a ring for sizing can cause cracking. The malleability of karat golds vary and is limited. This ductility changes from karat to color to alloy. If you must cold-work, you can eliminate this cracking by annealing (see wire and plate technical information.) Annealing will relieve the internal stresses of the metal and make the piece more resistant to cracking and stress corrosion.

Brazing may produce fumes and gases hazardous to your health. Avoid breathing these fumes and gases. Use adequate ventilation. See American National Standard Z491. “Safety in Welding and Cutting”, published by the American Welding Society.

WARNING: Freflux contains Boric Acid, and Blueflux contains Fluoride. They are both harmful if swallowed. If swallowed, give 1 to 2 glasses of water or milk. Do not induce vomiting. Call the poison control center or a physician. Keep out of reach of children.

Sitting Around The Campfire With Ross Metals “Joaquin Murrieta and his Hidden Treasure”

August 20, 2009

The story of Zorro was created after him. During the boom of the California gold rush of the 1800s, he was a hero to some and villain to others. Joaquin Murrieta, the Robin Hood of the Californios and a resistance against the cultural dominance of California in that time.

During the mid-1800s the Californios, as they called themselves, were pushing for the annexation of California from Mexico to the U.S. They had long felt ignored from Mexico and were ready to become Americans. Many of the Californios pushing for the annexation were Mexican born citizens themselves but felt more true to their adopted state.

In 1850, California became the 31st state to join the union. This was also during the gold rush and many people from all over the world came to find their own riches.

At this time, there was also a heavy, racial unrest. The Chinese were heavily discriminated after being sold as cheap labor for the railroads. Father Junipera Serra was enslaving the Native Americans and building missions up and down the state. Many Mexican born Californios were having their land stolen from them by the self-entitled new residents of California including powerful men like John C. Fremont, John Sutter and Stephen Watts Kearny. Any “foreigner” panning gold had to pay a special tax. They would often have their claim stolen from them in the name of the U.S. It was illegal for any of these said foreigners to testify against any Anglo-Americans regardless of the crime committed, and there were many including murder, rape, theft and battery.

The Bear Flag Revolution was formed at Fort Sutter which was a pact by the men present that night to rid the state of all Mexicans. That flag is still the state flag for California today.

Around this time, Joaquin Murrieta arrived from Mexico with his wife, Rosita and his brother, Carlos. They were excited about finding gold and worked in earnest. They soon found a nice sized gold claim. Soon after, there were threats for the brothers to hand over their claim, which they ignored to their own detriment. With some of their newfound fortune, the Murrieta’s purchased a small farm. One night a group of men raided the farm. Joaquin Murrieta was horse whipped severely and tied to a tree where he was forced to witness the rape and murder of his wife and murder of his brother by hanging. There was no justice for Joaquin and he turned to a life of crime and revenge.

Taking the law into his own hands, he formed a gang called The 5 Joaquins. The men who committed the savage atrocities against Murrieta began to turn up dead, as did their affiliates. In fact, the gold fields soon became a dangerous place for any Anglos. The 5 Joaquins began robbing gold and would, in turn, give many a fortune to a down and out Californio or Native American. He became a Robin Hood and revered hero to these people and often had a hide out whenever the law got close.

There was a $5,000.00 reward put out on Murrieta for murder, cattle rustling and a string of robberies, which, included 100 horses, and countless pounds of gold. Governor John Bigler, under a legislative act, created the California Rangers to find and kill The 5 Joaquins. One night a group of innocent Mexican men were ambushed and two were killed. Claiming the men were Murrieta’s henchmen and Murrieta himself, the rangers collected their reward. The supposed head of Murrieta was placed in a jar of brandy and displayed for money. Many people including a Catholic priest signed affidavits claiming that it was indeed Murrieta. Except when Murrieta’s sister saw the head, she said it was not him. Joaquin Murrieta had a very distinctive scar that this head didn’t have. It was later kept behind a bar called the Gold Nugget in San Francisco before it was destroyed in the great earthquake of 1906.

The truth of Murrieta’s fate is largely unknown. Joaquin Murrieta wasn’t a supporter of the U.S banking system and it was rumored that he had buried several burlap bags of gold somewhere near the Sierras. This area was heavy with lawmen and it is believed that Murrieta never returned for this particular buried treasure. This area in the Sacramento Valley is well developed and who knows, maybe one day someone will begin digging for their new swimming pool and will turn up millionaires.

I think that if these riches ever turn up that Ross Metals should be called. Ross Metals knows about how to treat their customers. If you go on our web site, you can read the testimonials from our customers. We may not be like Robin Hood or run into wild adventures but we’re honest and will work hard for your satisfaction. Sitting Around The Campfire With Ross Metals “ The Lost Dutchman’s Mine”

August 20, 2009

The Lost Dutchman’s Gold Mine has been possibly the most famous lost mine of all time in American history.  With rumors of an Apache curse, stockpiles of hidden bullion and a nearby ghost town called Gold Field, its no wonder that for the past 120 years an estimated 8,000 people a year have made an attempt to locate the treasure hidden somewhere deep in the Superstition Mountains.

The Superstition Mountains are located off historic Route 88, or the Apache Trail, in Arizona.  The drive takes you past the old ghost town of Gold Field before you reach the Superstition Mountains in Lost Dutchman’s State Park.  Obviously, the story of the buried treasure is no secret, but still it hasn’t been found yet.

Who was this Dutchman and what is the story that goes with him?  To find that out, we have to go back a few centuries before him to the 1500s when the Spaniards were conquering the new world.  In one particular location, Spanish Jesuit Priests were said to be finding their fortunes in Apache territory, which is largely the area of present day New Mexico and Arizona.  In the Superstition Mountains, these priests had laid a claim to more riches, primarily gold, than anyone could have ever imagined.  They sent some of their spoils back to the King of Spain.  Shortly thereafter, the king ordered the Jesuits to return immediately because of a falling out with the leaders of Mexico.

The trouble with the immediate departure of these Jesuit priests was that they had too much treasure in the mountains to load on their ships.  So through intimidation, the Apache Indians were placed as guardians to the mines.  True to their word, the Apaches remained vigilant as the guardians of the Spaniards’ fortunes, and this tradition was handed down from generation to generation. Neither the priests nor any other representative of Spain ever returned to collect their claim for reasons unknown.

Around 1892, a German Immigrant by the name of Jacob Waltz was mining in these very same mountains.  He was, as the inarticulate American slang coined him, The Dutchman (rather than Deutschman). Waltz discovered what was probably the claim of the Spanish Jesuit Priests who had never returned. Before Waltz ever made it down the mountain, Apache Indians who were acting as “the guardians of the mountains” attacked him.

The dying Waltz spent his last moments with a doctor and before he died, he told the doctor of gold and the approximation of its location. Its been lying there ever since. Do the Apache still know of its location? It’s very likely but it’s taboo for them to speak of it.

Does Angel J. Ross know where the treasure is buried? We don’t think so but we do know that Ross Metals could be a good final resting place for the gold if it’s ever discovered. Any prospector with good sense would know that Ross Metals would be the best place to go to for a good deal. Take a look at the Ross Metals website that provides you with vital rate information on the refining and purchasing of gold, silver, platinum and palladium.

Will the lost Dutchman’s treasure ever be found? It would be great but probably no! Will Ross Metals have great prices and excellent customer service for their every day customers and treasure hunters? It would be great and absolutely yes!

The Values of Selling Gold by Ross Metals

August 20, 2009

Selling scrap gold is an interesting area of the gold market that most people have not been aware of until recently. Ross Metals has been in the scrap precious metals business for over 30 years. Since the value of gold has risen higher and higher, people are becoming more aware that they can sell scrap gold and make an ample profit from it.

Scrap gold can include any products that are made of gold or include gold in its manufacture. Any gold jewelry, electronic products manufactured with gold such as computer motherboards, metal wires, gold bullion and coins and much more. You would not necessarily get the face value of the item, such as a gold coin for example, but you would get the gold value less a small margin from the dealer/company accepting your scrap gold.

You should always do some research when selling scrap gold. Prices and services vary from company to company. Reputable companies like Ross Metals will always be honest and fair when dealing and accepting your gold. You can always check on Ross Metals’ website for the latest prices of precious metals: gold, platinum, palladium, and silver. Ross Metals have been an established part of the Diamond District, on 47th street of New York City, for over 30 years. Their reputation of honest business dealing is incomparable!

Generally speaking you will get the value of the gold the moment it is assessed by Ross Metals, minus a small accountability (varies between 1% to 10%) and handling fee. It is important to note that the price of your scrap gold might not reflect the retail price of that item. It reflects merely the value of the gold by weight only. It is difficult to put a set handling fee on scrap gold due to varying types of gold and the quantity you are offering. At Ross Metals when an assessment is made, you will be advised either by phone, email or letter (depending on your mode of communication) and you can then decide if you want to sell it or not. If you decide to sell, simply inform Ross Metals and a check will be sent to you. If not, the gold will be returned back to you.

Before you sell the item, it is always a good idea to get a sense of what the gold is worth. How much gold is in the item? What is the price of gold on that day? On the top of Ross Metals’ website there are the current prices of gold, platinum, palladium and silver. The prices are of course in the pure form of the metal, for example 24-karat gold. Gold is generally priced at USD per troy ounce. If you have old and battered gold coins, weigh them. Apart from some minute alloy such as copper or silver, they will be mostly 80% – 90% gold. If you have Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coins, they will be only gold – 100%.

The item you are selling may be at lesser karats, such as 10, 14, 18 or 22-karat rings.  So it would be worth proportionately less, as there is less gold in the ring. It is a good idea to remove anything of value from the gold you before you get an assessment. With rings, for example, appraise any stones in the item or remove the stones from the rest of the piece so you can weight the gold separately. Keep in mind that other alloys such as silver, platinum and palladium may also have a value. Ross Metals may honor those alloys I he quantities are large enough to make thme profitable, and can recommend respectable dealers to appraise your stones since they do not deal with precious or semi-precious gems.

You may ship your scrap gold direct to our offices at 54 West 47th street, New York City, 10036. Please visit our website for a price chart on scrap gold and our schedules for the refining and purchase of all precious metals.
